Blackjack Variations

Blackjack players have a huge range of games to choose from. As blackjack is a game of skill and chance, it is important to understand the rules, house edge, and potential profit of each variation.

As an online blackjack player, you can choose the game that best takes your fancy. Listed below are just some of the more popular blackjack variations available today.

Vegas Strip Blackjack: This variation of the game is played with 4 decks. The dealer has to stand on 17 but can peak on ace cards as well as tens. In Vegas Strip Blackjack, the ace can only be split once and after a split, it can only be used to make combinations but not a blackjack.

Blackjack Surrender: This is a variation of Vegas Strip Blackjack however, in this version the decks are shuffled after each round. Additionally, the player can opt to Double even after a card has been split and the dealer does not draw when the player is “bust”.

Blackjack Switch: Is like traditional Blackjack but has certain exceptions including the dealer hitting a soft 17 and the player switching the second card from each of their hands to form a new hand. Players must play 2 hands both with equal bets and if the dealers cards add up to 22 he can push against any player hand unless it’s a blackjack.

Pontoon: The insurance option is not available in Pontoon and both the dealer’s cards are face down until the player stands or busts. The player cannot stand until they have a hand of at least 15 and can draw as many cards as they like if they have opted for the Double. A Pontoon is an ace and a ten or picture card and a Five Card Trick is when the player holds five cards without busting, no matter what the total value of the hand is.

Spanish 21 Blackjack: In Spanish 21 Blackjack, if a player gets a blackjack with 2 cards, he beats the dealer’s blackjack. The player can double, split or re-split the ace in this version and the dealer must hit a soft 17. The player can surrender their cards at any time before going bust. In this version of blackjack the payout for a five card 21 is 3 – 2, a six card 21 is worth 2 -1, seven cards 21 has a 3-1 payout.

21 Duel Blackjack: This game is played with 6 decks and differences between regular blackjack and 21 Duel Blackjack include the following: All hands with a total of 21 are equal with ace and ten having the same value of a three-card 21. The second big difference is that the used cards are returned to the deck and the deck is shuffled after each round.

Double Exposure Blackjack: In this game players can only split their cards once and with the exception of the natural blackjack, the dealer wins on all ties. The dealer’s first two cards are face up in Double Exposure Blackjack.
